Our Africa division consists of passionate Ghanaian women dedicated to supporting vulnerable mothers and infants struggling with poverty and lack of access to healthcare.

Easing the Burdens From Healthcare Expenses

Many nursing mothers and babies in Ghana become detained in hospitals simply because they cannot afford their medical bills. We find this deplorable, so we provide financial and non-financial support to address these crippling bills and give mothers their freedom and dignity back. By empowering women, we empower families and uplift communities.

Support to nursing mothers

Outreach for Underprivileged Ghanaians

The main objective of our support organization is to provide financial and social support to underprivileged nursing mothers and babies detained in Ghanaian hospitals. We conduct programs that help mothers and their families develop health knowledge and economic independence to support their babies' health and well-being. This holistic approach meets urgent healthcare needs while promoting lasting, sustainable change in these women's lives. Our assistance goes beyond transactions; we encourage and walk beside these women as sisters.

Our Intervention Areas

Motherhood of Africa runs diverse targeted programs covering critical areas of need for disadvantaged mothers and infants in Ghana.

Maternal and Neonatal Healthcare

We facilitate the early discharge of mothers unable to cover their delivery and postnatal care costs by assisting in settling outstanding hospital bills. Our team also donates basic provisions for mothers, like diapers, wipes, food, and dignified clothing, so they can focus on healing.

Mental Health Support

Many new mothers experience anxiety, depression, or trauma, especially when coping with poverty. We provide counseling and support groups to promote emotional and psychological wellness for vulnerable mothers.

Livelihood Empowerment

We help mothers acquire vocational skills and startup capital to begin income-generating activities like soap making, beadwork, textiles production, food vending, etc. This small step enables financial self-sufficiency.

Health Promotion and Education

Knowledge is power, so we conduct community outreach on pregnancy care, infant health/nutrition, and family planning. We also offer basic health screenings for common conditions like diabetes, hypertension, etc.

Health Insurance Access

We assist mothers with enrolling in a fair and reasonable health insurance plan after discharge. Doing this prevents future imprisonment in hospitals and facilitates access to essential care.
